Asking Alexandria - Through Sin + Self-Destruction Review

Asking Alexandria is a British rock band from York, North Yorkshire, founded by guitarist Ben Bruce in 2008. The band has already released two studio albums – Stand Up and Scream (2009) and Reckless & Relentless (2011) and has currently finished working on their third album Death to Destiny, which has not yet been given a release date. The current line-up of the group consists of Ben Bruce (lead guitar), Danny Worsnop (vocals), Cameron Liddell (rhythm guitar), Sam Bettley (bass guitar) and James Cassells (drums).

On May 15 (2012), Asking Alexandria released a short film entitled Through Sin + Self-Destruction, which promised a “controversial, uncensored look into the real lives of a new era of rockstars for today´s generation”. The film contains a trilogy of three music videos from the band´s second album - Reckless and Relentless, To the Stage and Dear Insanity. It also counts with guest appearances, such as: Sebastian Bach, Belladonna, Andy San Dimas, Frankie Palmeri and Johnny Plague.

The trilogy, written by Ash Avildsen, is truly the essence of sex, drugs and heavy metal. It shows, as it is stated by vocalist Danny Worsnop, the darkest life period of the band members, highlighting their self-destruction.

The first song is Reckless and Relentless and the plot starts in Beverly Hills (USA), while the second and third songs are passed in West Hollywood (USA). With the second song entitled To the Stage it is showed the most dramatic moment of the trilogy with the almost death of the band´s vocalist and with the distressed request from lead guitarist Ben Bruce - “Danny wake up!”- after seeing the fellow band member laying unconsciously on a couch. Dear Insanity concludes this trilogy, showing Danny´s “resurrection” and the five band members playing a live show, while the crowd is cheering.

Alcohol, sex, drugs, bar fights, overdoses and most important music, nothing is hidden with Asking Alexandria. After listening to their music and seeing this short film it is understood that when it is said on their song Reckless and Relentless - “I am Rock and Rollthey are definitely telling the truth.
