Monster Energy´s Aftershock Festival 2013

Monster Energy´s Aftershock Festival is going to be held on September at Discovery Park in Sacramento, California.

Phil Anselmo, Down lead singer, dedicated one song to Slayer´s Jeff Hanneman who passed away at the age of 49 on May 2, 2013.

Relentless Kerrang! Awards 2013 – Winners

The Relentless Kerrang! Awards celebrated its 20^th year on Thursday 13^th June 2013, at London´s Troxy Club. The ceremony was hosted by Blink-182 bassist and lead vocalist Mark Hoppus and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.

 

 

There were both British and American winners on the night; among the big winners are You Me At Six, Young Guns, Biffy Clyro, Iron Maiden, Queen, Slayer and All Time Low.

Biffy Clyro took home one of the most prestigious awards of the night with the Best Album Award for their sixth studio album “Opposites”.

The Best Event Award was given to British band You Me At Six for their Final Night of Sin at the Wembley Arena, knocking out their U.S competition such as Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Dave Grohl.

Bring Me The Horizon was named Best British Band and All Time Low as Best International Band.

Rock legends Iron Maiden were crowned with the Kerrang! Inspirational Award for their role as pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and the impact they have with heavy metal music all over the world. Also Queen members – Brian May and Roger Taylor – were presented with the Kerrang! Service To Rock as tribute to their five-decade-spanning career.

The Relentless Award was given to British band Young Guns and Venom were presented with the Kerrang! Icon Award.

On the night, Slayer (awarded with the Kerrang! Legend Award) appeared for the first time in public after the tragic death of guitarist and founding member Jeff Hanneman.

Fall Out Boy were nominated for the Best Single Award twice, with “My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)” and “The Phoenix”, the winner single. The band accepted the award via video message.

Americans Pierce The Veil were the ones who took home the Best Video Award for their song “King For A Day” featuring fellow friend Kellin Quinn, Sleeping With Sirens lead singer. Although both bands lost to Of Mice & Men for the Best International Newcomer, with frontman Austin Carlile picking up the award.

Presenters on the night included: Slipknot, Asking Alexandria, Jill Janus (Huntress), Benji Webbe (Skindred), Rolo Tomassi, Pure Love and comedians Diane Spencer and Bobby Mair, along with Planet Rock's own Al Murray.

Kerrang! Magazine Editor James McMahon commented about the night - "What a night. What a night. People lost shoes. People lost phones. More so, people lost dignity. I can't think of any better way the 20th Relentless Kerrang! Awards could have been celebrated. There's been so many reasons to be excited about being a rock fan already this year. I'm genuinely fearful what mayhem the 2014 Awards will bring..."

Pierce The Veil new music video “Bulls In The Bronx”

Pierce The Veil is an American post-hardcore band from San Diego, California, formed in 2007. The group was founded by brothers Vic (lead vocals, rhythm guitar and keyboards) and Mike Fuentes (drums and percussion). Other band members include Tony Perry with lead guitar and Jaime Preciado with bass and backing vocals. The band has already released three studio albums – A Flair for the Dramatic (2007), Selfish Machines (2010) and Collide with the Sky (2012).

 

 

Pierce The Veil, on August 23 (2011), signed with Fearless Records. Their first single from the new album – “King For a Day” – features vocalist Kellin Quinn of Sleeping With Sirens and it was followed by “Bulls In The Bronx”, their second single to be released, now with an official music video ready to be seen.

 

“Bulls In The Bronx”, according to the band´s lead singer Vic Fuentes, was inspired by the story of a 19 year old Australian girl called Olivia Penprazes, who, after years of cyber bullying, committed suicide. The song is very powerful, such is the music video, which tells a love story between a boy and girl.

In 2012, Pierce the Veil appeared at #33 in Rock Sound Magazine´s best albums of the year list and won Best Live Band of the Year, Album of the Year and also Artist of the Year in a reader´s poll conducted by Alternative Press. They are now nominated for Best International Newcomer, Best Single, Best Video and Best International Band at the Relentless Kerrang! Awards 2013. Relentless Kerrang! Awards Nominees 2013

The Kerrang! Awards is an annual music awards show in the United Kingdom, founded by rock music magazine Kerrang! in 1993.

The Relentless Kerrang! Awards is taking place on Thursday 13 June of this year, at new East End venue, Troxy. The ceremony will be hosted by Blink-182 bassist and lead vocalist Mark Hoppus and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.

 "Once again the Relentless Kerrang! Awards returns to celebrate all that is great and good in rock music," says Kerrang! Editor James McMahon. "I can say for a fact that all other awards ceremonies are crap compared to ours. I know this because I've been to loads of them, and ours is the only one where I've ever ended up on a rooftop talking to Jack Black about what pigeon tastes like at 3am."

 

"The secret is that we only do this for the fans," continues James. "Yeah, I know that makes me sound like Bob Geldof or something. But it's true. We only do this to celebrate the music the readers love, and to create new stories and a bit of magic that makes the music world that little bit more exciting than it would be if we didn't get a whole load of stars in a room and say, 'Let's rock!'"

Falling In Reverse release new music video “Alone”

Falling In Reverse is an American post-hardcore band formed in 2008, which is currently signed with Epitaph Records. In 2011, they released their debut album The Drug in Me Is You and they are currently working on their second studio album, Fashionably Late, which is set to be released June 18, 2013. The band is led by Ronnie Radke (lead singer), along with Jacky Vincent (guitarist), Ryan Seaman (drummer), Derek Jones (rhythm guitar) and Ron Ficarro (bassist).

 On May 7, the band released a music video for their first single from their second album – “Alone”. Falling In Reverse embraced a new sound, named Trapcore, which combines metalcore, hip-hop and electronic sounds. Lead singer Ronnie Radke explains this change of direction:

 

“My dad raised me on metal, but my first serious love was hip-hop. When I heard Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, that’s when I fell in love. I didn’t know what the hell they were talking about, the beats were intertwined, and it came inside of me and took me over.

When we added hip-hop elements I was thinking, ‘Should I do this? This sounds crazy! Are people going to like this?’ Now I’ve never been so proud of something. The final product, Fashionably Late, is the best work I’ve ever done.”

 

“Alone” has received various critics, both positive and negative, having definitely splitted their fan base into two. Here are some of the opinions stated:

 

“I personally love Alone. Ronnie has the ability to change up his style & make it work out for the best. It's almost a new genre, screaming, rapping, It's amazing he can do that. I will backup anything he does. He will always be an amazing artist.”

“VERY UNIQUE!! :)”

 

 “I absolutely love it. I love Ronnies new look also, cannot wait for their album!!”

 

“Well...I think I like the new style but I liked the old Falling in Reverse too. It sounds different but I like it. I'm excited for the new album."

 

“I'm not too sure if I like this. The chorus is good and catchy, but I'm not sure rapping is the right direction for the band.”

 

“This song screams "I want to be more popular" unfortunately. I've been a long time Hollywood Dead and Escape the Fate fan, and it feels like Ronnie Radke has some sort of lost identity and not sure what he wants to be... For me, it feels like they need to make a decision.. Are they hip-hop, are they rock or are they rap. If they want to be rap-rock, then fine, but they need to actually find a way to do that without sounding very odd!”

 

“I like Falling In Reverse but it feels like they're trying to change their sound too much. They should have just stuck with what they were good at if I'm honest...”

 

“The new song alone is not as good as I had expected it to be.”

 

 

Whether you love or hate Falling In Reverse new single “Alone”, one thing is certain, they are definitely making people talk.

Revolver Golden Gods Awards 2013

Revolver is as it is said "the world´s loudest rock magazine" and last Thursday, May 2, it was held the fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards.

The Revolver Golden Gods Awards 2013 were presented by Epiphone and the ceremony took place at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles, being broadcasted live on national television for the first time through AXS TV, while also being transmitted through Xbox LIVE and Revolver’s Facebook page.

Sebastian Bach, the frontman from Skid Row, and Sirius XM’s Jose Mangin hosted the "Black Carpet" pre-show, while Fozzy frontman and WWE professional wrestler Chris Jericho, for the fourth consecutive year, assumed his role as the host.

The show featured live performances by Metallica, Danzig with fellow Misfit legend Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein for a very special live Misfits set, Anthrax, Stone Sour, Dillinger Escape Plan and Halestorm. 

This year´s show featured also some of the biggest names in hard rock and heavy metal music, even while not performing, such as: Gene Simmons, Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, Phil Anselmo, Jason Newsted, Zakk Wylde, Kerry King of Slayer, Munky and Brian “Head” Welch of Korn, Taylor Momsen, David Draiman of Disturbed and Device, David Ellefson and Chris Broderick of Megadeth, Heaven’s Basement, Testament and In This Moment.

Three legends of heavy metal and hard rock music were honoured with three special awards - Rob Zombie received the Golden God Award, Metallica the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award, while the  Riff Lord Award was awarded to Black Sabbath axman Tony Iommi. Fans voted on the other awards categories.
