The Relentless
Kerrang! Awards celebrated its 20th year on Thursday 13th
June 2013, at London´s Troxy Club. The ceremony was hosted by Blink-182 bassist
and lead vocalist Mark Hoppus and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.
There were both British and American
winners on the night; among the big winners are You Me At Six, Young
Guns, Biffy Clyro, Iron Maiden, Queen, Slayer
and All Time Low.
Biffy Clyro took home one of the most
prestigious awards of the night with the Best Album Award for their
sixth studio album “Opposites”.
The Best Event Award was given to British band You
Me At Six for their Final Night of Sin at the Wembley Arena,
knocking out their U.S competition such as Green Day, Fall Out Boy and Dave
Grohl.
Bring Me The Horizon was named Best British
Band and All Time Low as Best International Band.
Rock legends Iron Maiden
were crowned with the Kerrang! Inspirational Award for their role as
pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and the impact they have with
heavy metal music all over the world. Also Queen members – Brian May
and Roger Taylor – were presented with the Kerrang! Service To Rock
as tribute to their five-decade-spanning career.
The Relentless Award was given to British band Young
Guns and Venom were presented with the Kerrang! Icon Award.
On the night, Slayer
(awarded with the Kerrang! Legend Award) appeared for the first time in
public after the tragic death of guitarist and founding member Jeff Hanneman.
Fall Out Boy were nominated for the Best
Single Award twice, with “My Songs
Know What You Did In The Dark (Light Em Up)” and “The Phoenix”, the winner single. The band accepted the award
via video message.
Americans Pierce The Veil
were the ones who took home the Best Video Award for their song “King For A Day” featuring fellow
friend Kellin Quinn, Sleeping With Sirens lead singer. Although
both bands lost to Of Mice & Men for the Best International
Newcomer, with frontman Austin Carlile picking up the award.
Presenters
on the night included: Slipknot, Asking
Alexandria, Jill Janus (Huntress), Benji Webbe (Skindred), Rolo Tomassi, Pure
Love and comedians Diane Spencer and Bobby Mair, along with Planet Rock's own Al Murray.

about the night - "What a night.
What a night. People lost shoes. People lost phones. More so, people lost
dignity. I can't think of any better way the 20th Relentless Kerrang! Awards
could have been celebrated. There's been so many reasons to be excited about
being a rock fan already this year. I'm genuinely fearful what mayhem the 2014
Awards will bring..."
